Jeffrey Byers

My dear husband Jeffrey Dale Byers passed away on November 4, 2007--the result of injuries from an auto accident in September of that year. Jeff grew up in Louisiana and Arizona. He earned his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Texas in 1991. He was an accomplished builder, furniture maker, scientist and programmer. I miss him terribly.

A scholarship endowment has been established in his name at the University of Texas.

The nomination process for the award will be held this fall (2010), and the awardee will be announced in spring 2011.The following is the selection criteria for the endowment:

Funds will be used to provide one award to recognize a graduate student currently enrolled in either the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry or the Department of Chemical Engineering who exhibits integrity, a collaborative spirit, compassion toward others, and who passionately contributes to the advancement of peers and to the disciplines of science and engineering. The candidate pool must include at least one student from each of the two departments, as directed by a committee comprised of members of the College of Natural Sciences and the Cockrell School of Engineering.
